What is(are) your name(s)?
Ruud and Therese Goos
For how long have you been running a B&B?
12 years
Please share something about the history of your present bed and breakfast.
When we bought this house in 1996 we had running it as a B&B already in mind. This area in Amsterdam is just perfect. Away from the 24hr noisy hectic centre of the city in a traditional Dutch village-like street. But still within the city and with a 24/7 bus connection to the very centre of Amsterdam. We converted the bedrooms into bedrooms with bathrooms and have been running it as a B&B for international guests ever since... We have met the nicest people from all over the world. And it was the perfect chance for us too, to keep practicing the many different languages that we had learned in school...
What are the unique characteristics of your B&B?
We take great pride in being a smoke- and drugs free establishment ! With the weird reputation Amsterdam has, that seems almost unique nowadays. We have private free parking for our guest on our premises. Parking a car anywhere in Amsterdam is a nightmare so having our own private parking space is a big bonus. Being located where we are, it is also easy to visit 'Zaanse Schans' the (traditional) windmill village.
Based on your guests' opinions, what feature of your B&B has made their stay special?
In our guestbooks many guests mention the helpfulness and personal attention as well as the typical Dutch laid back attitude and open mind. The setting seems perfect to most guests. The large breakfasts, usually enough to make lunch too. The easy and free pick up from Central Station on arrival is greatly appreciated as well as the drop off at the end. For those guests without a car of course...
