What is(are) your name(s)?
John and Lynda Leadbetter
For how long have you been running a B&B?
Please share something about the history of your present bed and breakfast.
Crown Lodge was once an Edwardian family home, and some of the original character has been retained, enhancing the required refurbishment to bring the property up to the standards required in a modern B&B.
What are the unique characteristics of your B&B?
It is true that Torquay offers many types of accommodation for visitors, but a well run B&B such as Crown Lodge can provide a much more welcoming, friendly service than the bigger, often soulless chain hotels. Here at Crown Lodge the emphasis is on comfort, cleanliness & service, and with only 6 rooms, John and Lynda achieve a level of care and attention to detail which surpasses others in the area.
Based on your guests' opinions, what feature of your B&B has made their stay special?
Crown Lodge is currently ranked No. 3 out of 135 B&B's in Torquay on one of the major review sites, and John & Lynda are aiming higher!! The two main ingredients of a good B&B are the "Bed" and the "Breakfast", and here John and Lynda score highly in the opinions of their guests. The bedrooms are very comfortable and well appointed, and the breakfast menu has options to suit all appetites. Guests also comment on the friendly service, the cleanliness of this B&B and on how John & Lynda are so welcoming. Having lived in Torquay for some years, John & Lynda have a wealth of local knowledge enabling them to give advise on restaurants, attractions, local transport and many many other useful tips on how to make the most of any holiday or short break.
Please describe in short your bed and breakfast and its general services and amenities.
Crown Lodge is a small B&B offering superb 4*guest accommodation, over two floors. Guests can enjoy delicious breakfasts in the ground floor dining room, which is furnished with contemporary tables for 2, and a buffet bar from which guests help themselves to juices, cereals, fruit & yogurt etc., whilst their choice of cooked breakfast is being prepared. There is no guest lounge or bar in Crown Lodge, however there are many restaurants and bars in Torquay. On a sunny day, guests can relax on the patio area to the front of the property. There is an ample car park, with a space for every room, something which is not often the case in this area. Crown Lodge is most suited to discerning couples, as groups of singles and young children are not accommodated.
How many rooms are offered at your B&B and what is its maximum capacity?
Crown Lodge has 6 bedrooms in total. Four of which are doubles located on the first floor, and one double and one twin room, located on the ground floor. There is no provision for extra beds or cots in any room.
What kinds of rooms do you offer?
All of the rooms in Crown Lodge are beautifully decorated in a neutral colour scheme, each with it's own different accent colour giving the rooms a touch of individuality. Quality bedding, cushions and throws give the rooms a stylish, home from home feel. The 4 deluxe doubles have dual aspect windows, and the ground floor twin room has a double-size window, making all of these rooms very light and airy. The standard double room is more cosy, but it too has a light bright decor. All of the rooms have en suite shower rooms.
Please describe the in-room facilities for each type of room in your B&B.
All rooms have a flat screen TV with integrated DVD player, a well stocked hospitality tray, including a mini fridge, an iron and small ironing board, hairdryer, central heating in the winter and a fan for those hot summer nights.
All of the bedrooms have a shower en suite, with electric showers ensuring hot water at any time of the day.
Which room is your personal favorite?
I have two favourite rooms, and it's hard to chose between the two. The first floor deluxe double at the front of the house is a favourite because of the king sized bed, the large bay window overlooking a lovely, well tendered garden ( this actually belongs to the neighbours - but they can't charge for looking!!) The other is the first floor deluxe double at the rear of the house, and therefore probably the quietest room in the house. It has a standard double bed, but benefits from a sofa in the small seating area. The ground floor deluxe double is probably the most sought after however, because of it's facilities for disabled guests and it's wheelchair accessible en suite.
What do the room rates include?
Room rates are bases on two persons sharing a double or twin room. Prices include full English Breakfast and parking. Free Wi-Ficonnection is also available.
Do you offer any special packages?
Discounts on internet prices are available for direct bookings for stays of 3 nights or longer. Prices vary according to season.
What may guests expect from a typical breakfast at your property?

The buffet consists of a selection of juices, fruits, yogurts and cereals. The tea selection includes English breakfast tea, decaffeinated, earl grey ,green tea and fruit teas. Guests can choose a cafetiere of fresh ground coffee or regular or decaffeinated instant coffee. The breakfast menu includes options for all appetites for example, simple boiled eggs, or french toast with maple syrup, to a traditional English or the the very healthy appetite - a farmhouse big breakfast.Vegetarian options are available.

What would you say to people who have never stayed in a bed and breakfast?
First time B&B guests are often surprised by the high standards of accommodation found in Crown Lodge. With a medium sized B&B like Crown Lodge guests get a professional service with a friendly more personal approach than large hotels. They are also good value for money, since all the investment is in the rooms and none has been wasted on expensive foyers and reception areas, simply to impress. At Crown Lodge, you are free to come and go as you wish. All that is expected is consideration for other guests when coming in late at night. The private owners accommodation is separate, and whilst accessible when needed, the hosts do not intrude. Guests obviously come together in the breakfast room, and often strike up conversation with other guests, though they are not seated together so are able to keep themselves to themselves if they wish.
