Bruges is one of the best preserved pre-motorised cities in Europe and it is almost impossible to get around by car. Plus, parking and night-garages in the centre are very expensive. However, we're sure you'll enjoy eexploring Bruges by bicycle or on foot. From our house, on foot it will take you 20 minutes to get to the old city-centre. We have bikes you can borrow free of charge if you please. Notice that from Bruges all Belgium is at your fingertips, and even so the most interesting towns in France, the Netherlands and Germany. Damme is a small medieval village at 7km from Brugge. Gent is the old capital of Flanders (Sint-Bavo, the Belfry, the castle if the counts "Gravensteen", museums...), which may be reached in 30min by car and in 20 min by train. Brussels is not only the capital of Belgium but also the capital of Europe (the Grand Place, ancient and modern art museums, Manneken Pis, Atomium with Mini-Europe...). It may bea reached in 1 hour by train or car. Antwerp is the city of Rubens and Plantijn. It may also be reached in 1 hour by train or car. The area around Ieper and Passendale is only 50 min away by car. The Begium coast with its small towns as Oostende, Knokke, Zeebrugge, Den Haan is equally charming and easily reachable.
