An interview with the innkeeper(s) of Il Boom Bed & Breakfast (17th of February 2009)
What is(are) your name(s)?
For how long have you been running a B&B?
Three years
Please share something about the history of your present bed and breakfast.
Il Boom Bed & Breakfast is in our own apartment. In the past we used to live in the whole large apartment. Three years ago, when I stopped working as a top manager in a mulrinational company, we decided to continue to live here, in a smaller space, creating the B&B. The interior of the apartment reflex our passion for design, music, literature, cinema of sixties and around (the period of the economical boom in Italy). It is a magnificent large apartment, with two different floors covered, and two large terraces with views of Rome.
What are the unique characteristics of your B&B?
Our B&B is unique for its position (in Trastevere, in the historical center, but not in the daily mess), for being so close to all major sites, for its special design in each area, for its great terraces with a view, for its special breakfast with homemade cakes and biscuits too, for its special atmosphere for which our guests feel at home.
Based on your guests' opinions, what feature of your B&B has made their stay special?
They feel at home, in a great and special apartment in the center of Rome.
Please describe in short your bed and breakfast and its general services and amenities.
On the first floor of the apartment, situated in a XIX century palace, is our family area, the hall, and the B&B night area (the three rooms guestrooms, each one with its private bathroom). At the second floor of the apartment is the guest dining room where breakfast is served, a place with a PC available for our guests, and a very large terrace with a view of Rome where guests can have their breakfast and relax. At the "torrino" floor there is another large terrace for our guests' relaxation.
How many rooms are offered at your B&B and what is its maximum capacity?
We have three rooms. Room Loren has a small en-suite bathroom and a double bed. Room Magnani features a large private bathroom with a large round jacuzzi and a double bed. A single bed can be added so it may accommodate 2+1 guests. Room Vitti is the large
What kinds of rooms do you offer?
Our three rooms are very large (around 18/20 squared meters), full of light, with decorated ceilings and doors, and with nice 60's furniture. Room Loren is more silent because it faces the back of the building overlooking Villa Sciarra public park. Room Magnani and Vitti are less silent because they face Via Dandolo and they have a view of Rome. Each room has its own private bathroom with shower. En-suite in room Loren, but small. Very large and special in room Magnani with large round jacuzzi too. Normal size and very special in desing in room Vitti.
Please describe the in-room facilities for each type of room in your B&B.
The whole B&B is centrally heated. In each room there is an indipendent air conditioning, a TV set, wireless internet connection. There is a common room with a PC available for our guests. In the dining room the kitchen is availbale for coffee, tea and snacks at anytime.
Which room is your personal favorite?
That's a question I often think about. I have to say that each room has its special feature (bathroom en suite and silence for room Loren; special large bathroom with jacuzzi and view of the city for room Magnani; private balcony with a view of Rome and special design in the bathroom for room Vitti). Before when the whole placed used to be our private apartment, room Loren was my personal bedroom... so probably it is my favorite.
What do the room rates include?
Our rates include breakfast, internet and tax.
Do you offer any special packages?
We apply a 10% discount for stays longer than seven nights.
What may guests expect from a typical breakfast at your property?
Our guests may taste every morning classic Italian breakfast: coffee (with our moka or espresso machine) or tea (many different flavors), milk, different kinds of yogurt, juices, jams, toasts, and our special homemade cakes and biscuits coming from our restaurant located in Trastevere.
When and where is breakfast served?

In many cases we had kids that enjoy our terraces, our three cats and our turtles.
Do you accept pets?
As said above we have three cats (they are not allowed to enter into thee B&B night area) and we can't accept more pets.
What is your smoking policy?
All our B&B is non-smoking. Our gests can smoke just at the terraces.
Is there a parking facility on premises or nearby?
We have paid parking just along our street. At 200 meters we have free parking.

What safety precautions are provided at your B&B?
We have standard safety precautions, based on Italian rules.

What types of payment do you accept?
We can't accept credit cards. Usually the payment is cash at the check-in. As an exception we accept payment with paypal or wire transfers.
Is there a special etiquette that guests should know about and comply with?
No special code of conduct. Just to be nice and respectful of other people.
Please tell us what things guests might enjoy visiting, seeing, doing, etc. in your area.
Rome is the most special city in the world. For its history, ruins, museums, open air museums, sunshine, food, lifestyle, magical atmosphere. Trastevere, the district where we are, is one of the most ancient and probably the most characteristic of Rome. You can find here a mixture of old Roman popular people still leaving in ancient buildings in narrow streets, with rich Italian and foreign people, tourists, a large variey of restaurants, bars, pubs, open air places where drinking, eating, meeting people, reading or just whatching what happens around.
Where is your B&B located and how it may be reached?
Our B&B is in Via Dandolo, one of the most admired streets in Rome. Via Dandolo is a street that goes up from the ancient narrow streets to the Gianicolo hill, with a view of Rome. From our place all major sites of the city are reachable withing 30-40 minutes on foot. We have also very convenient public transportations: bus 44, going directly to Capitol Hill (15 minutes); bus 75, going to Stazione Termini through Circo Massimo and Colosseo (20 minutes); tram 8 going to Largo Torre Argentina, Piazza Navona, Pantheon, all historical center (10 minutes) or to Stazione Trastevere (10 minutes).
What would you say to people who have never stayed in a bed and breakfast?
I would let them read our guest book, where, from the first time in April 2006, our guests have written their opinions and especially their feeling about our place. You will feel at home, even if you will be thousands miles far from your country. And you will feel at home even if you stay in a special and never completely discovered city. Hope to see you soon.
Is there something more that you want to share about your property?
I think I said a lot. In any case, I'm sure that in Rome and in our place people will have a great time.
