For how long have you been running a B&B?
Please share something about the history of your present bed and breakfast.
Dyers House is one of the oldest homes in Cashmere. Built in 1906 it has been a family home until we took it over in 2001. We have completely renovated the house in keeping with its historic character, but have incorporated modern facilities for our guests' comfort and convenience. Having been in the airline and hospitality industries virtually all my life, running Dyers House is a joy.
What are the unique characteristics of your B&B?
Our character home offers panoramic and unsurpassed views of the city, the Southern Alps and the sea. All rooms are underfloor heated, double glazed, and fully insulated. Guest rooms are packed with luxury products, snacks, dainty cakes, fresh fruit and flowers, as well as a range of wines, spirits and soft drinks.
Based on your guests' opinions, what feature of your B&B has made their stay special?
Our warm, friendly service, great food, nothing a problem, prepared to go the extra mile. Fantastic hospitality, surprise extras at no additional cost. The most comfortable beds in NZ.
Please describe in short your bed and breakfast and its general services and amenities.
Dyers House provides 5 star accommodation. We are five star approved with Qualmark, the official New Zealand tourism and hospitality rating authority. We have also recently been awarded Qualmark's Enviro Silver award, which will be officially acknowledged on our website within a few weeks. Guests have access to the garden, sitting rooms and library with a large range of books, magazines and dvds. The library has a home theatre as an alternative to the tv/dvd system in guest rooms. Windows and Apple computer systems and broadband wifi internet is also available at no charge. We are close to restaurants, walking tracks and only minutes from the city centre by bus or car. Guest parking is off-street private and secure. We offer pre-dinner cheese and wine, a nightcap, and friendly stimulating conversation is always on offer! Although not advertised widely, our undercover swimming pool is also available.
How many rooms are offered at your B&B and what is its maximum capacity?
We have 3 queen-sized rooms each with ensuite bathrooms. Each bedroom can accommodate 2 guests sharing queen-sized beds.
What kinds of rooms do you offer?
Rooms are superbly decorated in keeping with the Edwardian period of the house, and exude quality taste and warmth. The front bedroom overlooks the garden and is appropriately called the Garden room. The middle bedroom with views of the mountains is known as the Federation room and is decorated in warm grey shades and alabaster. The third bedroom, the White room, is decorated in romantic shades of white; an ideal venue for a honeymoon or for any special anniversary or romantic occasion.
Please describe the in-room facilities for each type of room in your B&B.
Superb linens adorn the beds which were selected carefully for their comfort value. All our quilts and pillows are duck/goose down, our linen is crisp Egyptian cotton. A perfect combination to ensure a memorable nights sleep.
Bedrooms are underfloor heated and room facilities include robes and slippers, TV and DVD, alarm clock/radio, iron and ironing board. Tea and fresh coffee-making facilities, a wide range of snacks and pastries, wine, beer, spirits and soft drinks are also provided, as well as fresh fruit, cakes and flowers. All bathrooms have a walk-in wet shower and fitted with underfloor heating as well as heated towel rail. Thick soft towels and glamorous toiletries provide a really luxurious feeling.

Please tell us what things guests might enjoy visiting, seeing, doing, etc. in your area.
Local walking tracks through Victoria heritage Park followed by a visit to the Sign of the Takahe - one of the historic rest houses on the Summit Road along the crest of the Port Hills. A great spot for morning or afternoon tea or lunch in its Gothic heraldic splendour. Visit the quaint French harbour settlement of Akaroa, sampling the cheeses at Barry's Bay along the way. Tour the Botanical Gardens, Canterbury Museum, Christchurch Art Gallery and Arts Centre by a circular tour on an Edwardian tram. Two or three hours can easily slip by at the fascinating Antarctic Centre, and a return day trip on the Trans Alpine train is a must!
Where is your B&B located and how it may be reached?
We are situated in the hill suburb of Cashmere, overlooking the city, the Southern Alps and the sea. Located to the south of the city, visitors in central Christchurch will easily locate Colombo Street - the main street that leads due south. Dyers Pass Road comes off the hill end of Colombo. Very easily found. We also provide directions for people arriving from the airport or station as well as those coming from out of town from the north, west or south. Maps with recommended routes are available on our website. We also provide courtesy transport for guest arrivals / departures.
What would you say to people who have never stayed in a bed and breakfast?
Most people who stay in B&Bs do so because they like the personal touches not found in hotels. They want to meet local people and gain knowledge of their surroundings. Dyers House allows people to choose and personalise their stay. We endeavour to meet our guests' needs.
Is there something more that you want to share about your property?
Our guests' happiness and enjoyment are our top priority and we treat people as we would like to be treated ourselves. We try to surprise and delight and to offer an insight into our country. We aim to totally exceed their expectations and I have to say that so far we seem to be doing so. Everyone who stays here has told us that we offer so much more than other places they have stayed, which after all is the thing they remember most. And that to me is everything.
