Please share something about the history of your present bed and breakfast.
From the day we owned the house, we knew it was the perfect place for a Bed and Breakfast. Large, with a lovely garden, historical, situated in the centre of town... It had all the qualities which can make a holiday so attractive. But, dating from 1774, it needed a restoration first. That naturally took a lot of time, but was worth its while. Now it finally has been completed we really can receive our guests with the good feeling, we have got something special to offer...
What are the unique characteristics of your B&B?
What really makes our house a special place to spend a few days in, is the fact that for centuries now it has always been a house where people, ordinary people like you and me, were born, went to school, ate their dinner, went shopping, read books, fell in love, married, got children, in other words, lived their lives. Not so very much has changed since when it was built. Of course, the house now has modern electricity, a comfortable bathroom, central heating...But the wooden floors are still the ones from 1774, the year the house was built, on its walls you can still see the beautiful painting dating from that time, the entrance through which you walk is the same through which the coach once passed...
Based on your guests' opinions, what feature of your B&B has made their stay special?
The historical and at the same time, very comfortable and cosy character of the house. The kindness of its owners. Their continuous efforts to be good and pleasant hosts at all times. The interesting, historical atmosphere of Mechelen, the beautiful medieval Flemish town in which the house is situated.
How many rooms are offered at your B&B and what is its maximum capacity?
Estrixhof offers two large rooms, each for two people: the Holland Room and the West-Indies Room. Each room has central heating, a private sitting corner with coffee and tea making facilities. It has a big bathroom with bathtub, shower, two washing basins
Which room is your personal favorite?
Both rooms are lovely; hard to make a choice!
What do the room rates include?
One night stay (with coffee/tea making facilities), a welcoming cup of tea or coffee with some sort of cake, and breakfast.
Do you offer any special packages?
We are busy preparing one.
What may guests expect from a typical breakfast at your property?
The standard breakfast includes all kinds of fresh rolls, currant bread, yoghurt, cereals, fresh fruit or fresh fruit- salad, honey, marmalade, cheese, meat, eggs, milk, coffee, tea.
When and where is breakfast served?
Breakfast is being served between 8.00 am and 9.30 am. To the wish of the guests, either in their room or in the dining room with central heating, or during summertime, in the winter garden or at the terrace.
Are dietary needs accommodated?
On prior request we are happy to fulfill dietary wishes without extra payment.
Do you serve other meals?
Each room has coffee/tea making facilities. To each guest a welcoming cup of coffee/tea is offered together with some kind of cake.
Is your bed and breakfast suitable for children?
Not suitable for children.
Do you accept pets?
No pets.
What is your smoking policy?
No smoking. Neither in the rooms nor in the garden.
Is there a parking facility on premises or nearby?
