An interview with the innkeeper(s) of Villa Matilde Bed & Breakfast (26th of November 2009)
What is(are) your name(s)?
For how long have you been running a B&B?
We have been running a B&B for ten years now.
Please share something about the history of your present bed and breakfast.
I am a biology teacher, Spanish and lived in Holland for 34 years. My husband Roland is a Dutch physiotherapist. We were living in Holland, when we decided that this life wasn't what we wanted anymore. We longed for peace, nature and a better climate, so we landed in Andalucia. With help from many friends we were able to buy Villa Matilde, a fantastic place to start a new life with a new enterprise. We thought that the combination of running a B&B together with a nature education centre would be economically successful, and so it turned out to be.
What are the unique characteristics of your B&B?
We think that our B&B is special for the area it's situated. At Villa Matilde it's very peaceful and the natural surroundings are amazing, specially in spring. We have our own organic vegetable garden and some animals (chickens, donkeys, cats, dogs and bees) and like to live from as much as nature offers us. We make our own bread, marmalade, yogurt, preserve food, grow fruit and olives and have honey from our bees. Apart from breakfast, we also serve other meals and use our own products to prepare them.
Based on your guests' opinions, what feature of your B&B has made their stay special?
In our guest book people tell us that they particularly enjoyed our hospitality, cheerfulness, the peace and quiet at Villa Matilde and our meals. They are usually surprised about the beauty of the Sierra de Andujar natural park nearby. And, of course, a lot of people come to watch the Iberian lynx, because this area is where you can find the largest population of this species in the world.
Please describe in short your bed and breakfast and its general services and amenities.
Our B&B was built in 1926 and the original interior has partly been preserved, which makes it a place with a special atmosphere. There is a living/dining room with a fire place, a library with a large amount of touristic and nature information of Andalucia. The villa is surrounded by a spacious garden with typical Mediterranean vegetation and old trees offering shade from the sun. There is also a swimming pool with a large terrace.
How many rooms are offered at your B&B and what is its maximum capacity?
There are eight rooms: 4 triple and 4 double, Five of them have a bathroom en suite, The other rooms share two bathrooms in the hall. We can accommodate a maximum of 20 guests. The rooms are stylish and simple, provided with heating facilities.
What do the room rates include?
The room rates include parking and the use of internet. Breakfast is not included. We want to give the opportunity to our guests to choose this facility if they want to, because a lot of animal watchers get up at the break of dawn and don't have breakfast.
Do you offer any special packages?
The estate is very suitable for courses and seminars. We have a large course room and various media facilities. Villa Matilde can be rented with or without meals included. For large groups we have special prices.
What may guests expect from a typical breakfast at your property?
We serve typical Andalucian meals. With our breakfast we serve toast with olive oil and fresh tomatoes - typical for this area. We also serve homemade bread and marmalade with tea or coffee. On request we can also serve a boiled egg, our homemade yogurt and fresh juice at additional payment.
When and where is breakfast served?
Normally we serve breakfast between 8.00 and 10.30 a.m. in the dining room or on the terrace, if the weather permits it.
Are dietary needs accommodated?
We also cater for vegetarians and people with other dietary requirements prior request.
Do you serve other meals?
We have a menu for lunch and dinner.
Do you accept pets?
We accept pets for an additional fee.
What is your smoking policy?
We allow smoking outside the house.
Is there a parking facility on premises or nearby?
At Villa Matilde there is a large parking zone.
Is your B&B suitable for disabled guests?
Our B&B is accessible for disabled guests. We have a ramp to enter the house and we have an adapted double room with bathroom.
Are there a minimum number of nights for staying at your B&B?
We have a minimum number of two nights for staying at our B&B.
How can guests check availability and make a reservation?
Reservations can be made via phone and e-mail.
What types of payment do you accept?
Please tell us what things guests might enjoy visiting, seeing, doing, etc. in your area.
Where is your B&B located and how it may be reached?
On our web page we have a map and route description of how to get to Villa Matilde.
