Please share something about the history of your present bed and breakfast.
This was my grandparents' home, on my father's side, and it was more or less abandoned for almost 40 years. I have received the house after the death of my father and I took the decision to restore it as my home and as a quality B&B, facing, as I was, the moment of retirement of my public functions. I started running it 2 years ago and it has been a challenging and very interesting experience. The manor house has had hundreds of guests coming from everywhere and the great majority is of very interesting people searching for different places and a comfortable and family like atmosphere.
What are the unique characteristics of your B&B?
Solar do Morgado Oliveira Bed & Breakfast is very conveniently located for those looking for a strategic place to base the visit of the Northeast of Portugal. Placed at the centre of a small town, Macedo de Cavaleiros, near from shops and restaurants, the manor, inside its walls, keeps an unexpected isolation and a nice and quiet rural atmosphere. Inside the house we can find comfort, good taste, and mainly a home decorated with family objects, pictures and furniture, some with centuries. The breakfast is served at5 the dinning room's large table trying to honour the breakfasts of my youth tenderly served by my Grandmother. This is one of oldest manors in the region and the oldest in Macedo. On the main door crest is engraved the date 1676. The restoration gave the house the necessary modern comfort without loosing anything of its historic and honourable past.
Based on your guests' opinions, what feature of your B&B has made their stay special?
Our guests have referred until now a very good impression about their stay. The friendly and family atmosphere, the comfort, the decoration, the breakfast and the swimming pool are usual references. At breakfast the home made marmalade, the cheese, the bread are very much appreciated. The general quality of the house and service are generally referred to as very good.
