An interview with the innkeeper(s) of Jacaranda Creek Farmstay and Bed & Breakfast (18th of January 2010)
What is(are) your name(s)?
Kerrie Bryant-Adams
For how long have you been running a B&B?
We have developed the property over the past 9 years but have only been open as a B&B since April 2009
Please share something about the history of your present bed and breakfast.
We bought the overgrown 23 acres in 2000 and set about putting in the infrastructure such as roads, dams, fences, barn, storage facilities, gardens and then built the homestead following by the pool, studio complex and tennis court which was completed in June 2008. We opened for business in April 2009.
What are the unique characteristics of your B&B?
Our B&B is unique as it offers a traditional B&B experience as well as the added benefit of being on a working farm with cattle, horses, alpacas and poultry. Guests are able to relax in the rural surrounds but only minutes away from beaches, shops, restaurants, cafes, cinemas and tourist attractions.
Based on your guests' opinions, what feature of your B&B has made their stay special?
From our guest book, it is the attention to detail that has impressed our guests, the variety and quality of breakfast and the luxury fixtures, fittings and bed linen. Guests have commented on the facilities such as the farm tours, use of the solar heated pool, tennis court and the easy access to the famous Eumundi markets. The studios are self-contained and this has made it easy for guests to do their own self-catering for lunches and dinners especially when they have young families.
Please describe in short your bed and breakfast and its general services and amenities.
Jacaranda Creek Farmstay & B&B is situated on 23 acres in the historical township of Eumundi - a former timber industry area steeped in history with its wide streets from the horse and carriage era, its old buildings, museums, antiques, and home to numerous art galleries, book barn, coffee shops, restaurants and cafes. Situated 90 minutes north of Brisbane, Eumundi is a township that has easy access by way of the Bruce Highway and is only 15 minutes from Noosa and surrounding beaches. Jacaranda Creek Farmstay and B&B has three traditional homestead rooms each with TV, DVD, (some with cable TV) and access to a book and DVD library, tea and coffee facilities and open verandah areas through french doors. The three studios are self-contained each have an electric barbecue, private patio/verandah areas, private facilties/bathrooms, TVs, DVDs, Austar (cable TV), stereo unit and IPOD docking stations. The property has wireless broadband and a common meeting room which has all the latest in audio visual equipment. The Yandina Conference Room caters for 10-12 comfortably, is air-conditioned and has a kitchenette for catering. This room is also used for private functions, dinners and is used by guests during the day as an additional lounge space with books, DVDs and board games.
How many rooms are offered at your B&B and what is its maximum capacity?
The property has 3 traditional homestead rooms which have queen ensemble beds, TV, DVDs, ensuites or private bathroom facilities and are situated in the homestead. There are three separate self-contained studios one with two bedrooms, kitchen and living r
What kinds of rooms do you offer?
Th homestead rooms are called Cooroy, Kenilworth and Noosa named after the direction in which they face. Each homestead room has access both internally and externally via french doors from the verandah. They are air-conditioned, have ceiling fans, wardrobe and storage space. The two bedroom studio which sleeps up to 6 is the Eumundi Studio and has reverse cycle air-conditioning, a full size fridge, kitchen, sink, CD player, separate bathroom. The separate studio complex has two studios - Ninderry facing Mt. Ninderry and Eerwah which faces Mt. Eerwah to the west. These rooms are fully self-contained and also feature microwave oven, fridge, kitchenette and air-conditioning. These studios have beautifully polished timber floors throughout.
Please describe the in-room facilities for each type of room in your B&B.
All rooms have separate bathroom/ensuite facilities, reverse-cycle air-conditioning, ironing facilities as well a guest laundry is situated beneath the separate studio complex. Each room has a luggage rack and airer for wet bathers, etc.
Which room is your personal favorite?
All the rooms and studios have their own individual character and my personal favourite in the homestead is the Kenilworth Room which is light and airy has a lovely black and white themed ensuite with a huge window overlooking the trees outside and the rustic fence. It has a french door opening onto the verandah, where there is separate seating and access through the back gate directly to the pool. The Ninderry/Eerwah studios are a favourite has they overlook the entire property and directly below are cows, calves and the dam as well as sweeping rural views to the back of the property and to the railway overpass which carries the freight trains.
What do the room rates include?
The rates include a two course (both continental and hot) breakfast each morning, access to all facilities, farm tour, use of linen, towels, bathrobes, free parking and is GST inclusive.
Do you offer any special packages?
Yes we have monthly specials which are published on our website. We offer a special package for Easter and a Christmas in July special which is extremely popular. Winter in Australia is in July and people like to enjoy the cooler weather, celebrate and enjoy a traditional Christmas dinner at this time. Jacaranda Creek Farmstay & B&B is also decorated in Christmas lighting and the common room is themed for the occasion.
What may guests expect from a typical breakfast at your property?
A typical breakfast includes seasonal fruit salad, rhubarb and apple compote, breakfast fruit pots, home made muesli, locally made yoghurts and creams, assorted juices and cereals, fresh free-range farm eggs from our own chickens served various ways - boiled, eggs Benedict, scrambled eggs, double smoked bacon, sour dough toast, condiments, ricotta, coconut and banana pancakes, pastries, breakfast cakes, coffees and teas. Each morning a different breakfast menu is served and written up on the board. A commercial coffee machine and locally purchased coffee beans produces wonderful cappucinos, lattes and flat whites.
When and where is breakfast served?
Breakfast is served on the homestead verandah overlooking the pool and the property. There are clear PVC blinds that can be lowered if the weather is inclement but does not block out the views. Breakfast is usually served between 7,30-9.00am but we are flexible and can offer early breakfast for those with children, who want to get to the markets early which start at 6.30am or need to catch an early flight. We confirm breakfast time with our guests each day to suit their needs.
Are dietary needs accommodated?
We ask all our guests about dietary requirements, allergies or dislikes. We gather this information prior to their arrival and reconfirm when they check-in. We are able to cater for vegetarians, vegans, coeliac, gluten intolerance, dairy free etc. and are happy to accommodate these requests with advance knowledge.
Do you serve other meals?
For an additional fee and advance notice, we can provide additional meals such as gourmet barbecue hampers, dinners and catering for special functions such as corporate events, meetings and functions.
Are there cooking facilities, which guests may use?
Each of the studios have kitchenette and are fully equipped with toasters, sandwich makers, microwaves, fridges, tea/coffee making etc. The homestead rooms have access to barbecue facilities in the tennis and pool rotunda areas and barbecue hampers are available with all the equipment to cook and serve including non-breakable plates, cups, glasses, as well as cutlery etc.
Is your bed and breakfast suitable for children?
The studios are suitable for children. Children under the age of 12 stay and eat free. Children over 12 years and additional adults are charge an additional $50 per per per night to cover the cost of breakfast and use of facilities.
Do you accept pets?
Sorry we do not accommodate pets as we have too many farm animals that would get distressed with domestic pets being on the property. There is a kennel nearby which would happily accommodate your pets for a fee.
What is your smoking policy?
All our rooms are non-smoking. Smoking is allowed in designated outdoor areas where ashtrays are provided.
Is there a parking facility on premises or nearby?

There are direct flights each day into the SCR airport from Sydney and Melbourne. Other destinations would need to use the Brisbane Domestic or International Airport.
What would you say to people who have never stayed in a bed and breakfast?
Our property is sufficiently large enough for everyone to have their own private space during their stay. We live in a relaxed tranquil environment and guests are welcome to enjoy the facilities as they would their own home. All guests have private facilities and their own private space. Guests are provided individual seating for breakfast but are in close proximity of other guests as breakfast is served on the homestead verandah and the East wing rotunda. Guests can interact with the hosts and/or other guests as much or as little as they choose. Most guests are happy to have casual conversation over breakfast or at the pool but usually take time out to enjoy the surroundings around them or to take one of the many tours, day trips or visits to town for a coffee. The property, accommodation and facilities is designed to maximize privacy for individuals.
Is there something more that you want to share about your property?
Everything on the property has been built or developed onsite. The property started life as 23 acres of overgrown land covered in dead trees and broken fences. It took 8 years to clear and developed before finally opening as a Farmstay & B&B in April 2009. The property is not on town water and is reliant on tanks for its water supply. It has it own septic systems which utilize/treat the waste and grey water on the surrounding gardens. The dams are used for the animals and irrigation when required.
