What is(are) your name(s)?
Julie and Paolo Santoro
For how long have you been running a B&B?
Two years
Please share something about the history of your present bed and breakfast.
We have been running Les Glycines for two years. It was a B&B beforehand but had no name, so we have named it after the wisteria covering the front of the house. The previous owner had renovated the house from a near ruin so we had no major work to do when we arrived although we spent quite a lot of time redecorating and giving the interior a facelift. We have been told that during the last war, 3 separate families lived in the house, one of which lived in the basement! We both enjoy meeting people and take pride in offering an excellent service, but neither of us had had any B&B experience before this. Paolo used to work in passenger service at Gatwick airport in London and Julie worked as Business Director for Glamour magazine, also in London. We had both been yearning to create something of our own and knew that we could combine our flair for hospitality with lots of hard work and make a business that we could be proud of.
What are the unique characteristics of your B&B?
Les Glycines has just three guest bedrooms, so it offers a tranquil setting for a holiday. The house is divided into two separate parts and guests have their own access; this means that our guests can be completely independent if they wish, but we are always (unobtrusively) at hand, if needed. Each room is beautifully and individually furnished and decorated, with ensuite bathrooms (shower, WC, handbasin), plenty of storage, double glazing, central heating, TV and DVD. The breakfast room is available for our guests to use at any time (including the fridge, microwave, etc.) and provides tea and coffee-making facilities, a DVD film library, books, games, tourist information and walking and cycling itineraries. Breakfast is plentiful and a cooked breakfast is available for those who prefer. Our guests are always welcome to share our enclosed and very pretty garden. We offer dry, secure cover for cycles and motorbikes.
Based on your guests' opinions, what feature of your B&B has made their stay special?
We are always told by our guests that we give them a great welcome and they are made to feel really at home. We go out of our way to give 'that bit extra' to our guests to ensure that their stay in Huelgoat is an enjoyable one. We constantly receive compliments on the decor and the facilities of the rooms: the showers are always really hot and the water pressure's high; the beds are very comfortable; the linen and towels are immaculate; it's great to be able to watch TV or a DVD from our film library in bed. Our guests have told us that staying at Les Glycines is better than staying in a hotel: we offer the comfort of a hotel, but with a more personal approach.
Please describe in short your bed and breakfast and its general services and amenities.
