What is(are) your name(s)?
Susan Bennett and Trevor Russell
For how long have you been running a B&B?
Two years in Spain, several years previously in the UK
Please share something about the history of your present bed and breakfast.
Cueva Caballo bed and breakfast will be two years old this summer (2010). The actual building is in fact a cave house (so not a 'building' at all!) which has been inhabited as a home by a Spanish family since the late 19th century. The caves immediately next door were used as stables for the family horses & goats but are now disused. The house was 'reformed' 4 years ago and brought up to the standards of the 21st century with new bathrooms and a kitchen......previously, the family would have done all their cooking in one pot over the fire! All the rooms are 'cave' and each of the 'back' rooms are without windows. The ensuite bedroom to the front of the property has a window. The eco credentials of cave living are several. Not least is the fact that we don't require air conditioning in the summer to keep cool and that the log burner in the living room is all we need in winter to keep toasty warm - the cave maintains a constant temperature of between 14 and 24 degrees....all year round! We decided to offer B&B as a way to supplement our income originally but it has proved to be such a great way to meet lovely people from all over the world that we would do it anyway! We are very keen that our guests get the most out of their visit and so we are very happy to advise them of places of interest, best viewpoints and great restaurants etc. However, if they want to come here and do nothing, they can do that too!
What are the unique characteristics of your B&B?
Cueva Caballo is unique in Galera in that it is situated at the top of a hill, in a small barrio (district) where there are few neighbours and NO vehicles! It's very peaceful! This means that as soon as you arrive, you start to unwind, de-stress; feeling free of pressure.
Based on your guests' opinions, what feature of your B&B has made their stay special?
The tranquility, peace and quiet. The relaxed, laid back attitude of the proprietor!
Please describe in short your bed and breakfast and its general services and amenities.
There is a choice of two spacious, well appointed, double bedrooms; one of which has a window (it's to the front of the cave) and a large en suite bathroom (shower only), the 2nd double (no window as it's to the rear of the cave), has a cave bathroom (shower only) next door (shared with the owner). We can accommodate 4 people at any time. Each bedroom is equipped with tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryer, towels and bed linen and books and magazines. In the communal sitting room there is also a choice of books and DVD's and Sky TV. Broadband internet is also available. Continental breakfast (all items locally sourced) is served under the pergola on the pretty patio or, during the winter months, in the dining room. If you have a well behaved dog, he/she can come and stay too! The patio is a lovely, tranquil place to relax with a cool drink after a long day of exploring. It's also wonderful for studying the night sky as there is no light pollution here - just lie back on a recliner and star gaze! Tea & coffee is FOC. Wine, beer and soft drinks are available at a small charge. Please note - Cueva Caballo is a non-smoking home....Thank you!

Each bedroom is equipped with tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryer, towels and bed linen and books and magazines. Beach towels are available free of charge. There is an iron and ironing board available.
Which room is your personal favorite?
My personal favourite room is the en suite bedroom as it is the only bedroom with a window and therefore natural daylight. But then, the other double bedroom, which doesn't have a window is also great as it's so dark in the morning, you tend to stay asleep for longer!
What do the room rates include?
The room prices include breakfast, tea & coffee, internet, parking, taxes etc. Beach towels are available - we just ask for a small refundable deposit.
What may guests expect from a typical breakfast at your property?
Breakfast consists of fresh fruit juice, cereals, hams, cheeses, pastries, toast and home made marmalade, fresh fruit, tea & coffee. A full English breakfast can be provided at a charge of 4 euros per person and by prior arrangement
When and where is breakfast served?
We're pretty flexible but breakfast is normally served between 07.30 and 09.30 am and can be taken either on the patio under the pergola or in the dining room
Are dietary needs accommodated?
Where possible, dietary needs are catered for by prior notice.
Do you serve other meals?
A welcome glass of something is offered on arrival at Cueva Caballo! If you prefer, tea and coffee is also offered. An evening meal can be provided as long as it has been ordered early in the day as and when required.
Are there cooking facilities, which guests may use?
Guests are welcome to use the fridge in the kitchen to store their own drinks. Tea and coffee making facilities are provided in each bedroom.
Is your bed and breakfast suitable for children?
We can accommodate children and have a lower age limit of 10 years old.
Do you accept pets?
If your dog is well behaved and friendly, he or she would be very welcome!
What is your smoking policy?
Cueva Caballo is a non smoking home both inside and out.
Is there a parking facility on premises or nearby?
Parking is a few steps away in a small public car park, which is free of charge and is used mainly by other cave dwellers in the area. It is not used at all by visitors to the village unless they are visiting residents.
Is your B&B suitable for disabled guests?
Due to the unmade road leading to and from the cave in either direction, we are sorry, but we can not recommend this area for disabled people.
What safety precautions are provided at your B&B?
Crime is virtually nonexistent and so a burglar alarm is not necessary. We do have smoke alarms.
What is your check-in/check-out policy?
We will fit in with your requirements - we're very flexible on checking in and out!
Are there a minimum number of nights for staying at your B&B?
The minimum stay is two nights.
How can guests check availability and make a reservation?
Please email detailing your requirements and we get back to you by return. We require a deposit of 50% and the balance to be paid 4 weeks prior to arrival.
What is you cancellation policy?
Cancellations can be made at any time but deposits cannot be refunded if less than two weeks prior to arrival date.
What types of payment do you accept?
Bank transfer, PayPal and cash are all acceptable methods of payment.
Is there a special etiquette that guests should know about and comply with?
No code at all - we want you to feel relaxed at all times!
Please tell us what things guests might enjoy visiting, seeing, doing, etc. in your area.

Galera is about 30km northeast of Baza, the nearest major town to be found on most maps of Spain.
What would you say to people who have never stayed in a bed and breakfast?

You will have your privacy of course, at all times in your rooms but you will also be free to share a bit of our life too! We want you to feel at home and come and go as you please.
