Please share something about the history of your present bed and breakfast.
My wife and I opened Willowbrook in 1997 and Trish & Tony have been managing it for us since 2007. The Main House of Willowbrook was built in 1914 and still features high ceilings, red beech tongue and groove flooring, wood panelling and even a pressed tin ceiling in one of the bedrooms. It has undergone extensive renovations and now boasts more modern comforts such as central heating, en-suite bathrooms, wireless internet and Sky TV. 'The Cottage' was built in 2003 on the site of the old Shearers' Quarters and the studio apartment we call 'The Barn' is the result of extensive renovations to the original hay barn. The property is still listed as a 'Protected Feature'.
Based on your guests' opinions, what feature of your B&B has made their stay special?
Based on guest feedback, the following are what our guests like most about Willowbrook (not in any particular order): Peaceful rural location; Trish & Tony (the hosts); Luxuriating in the spa pool while enjoying the view up to the skifield; Child-friendly (large garden with sheep to handfeed); Excellent value for money; Breakfasts; Plenty of safe, off-street parking; So close to Coronet Peak skifield!
Please describe in short your bed and breakfast and its general services and amenities.
Willowbrook is in an idyllic, rural setting at the foot of Coronet Peak skifield in the heart of the beautiful Wakatipu Basin. Surrounded by majestic alpine scenery, we are only 15 minutes from the bright lights of Queenstown and 5 minutes from the quaint and historical settlement of Arrowtown and The Hills course - home of the NZ Open Golf Championship. Award-winning Millbrook Resort is also close by (just three minutes' drive from the front gate of Willowbrook) and we are within easy reach of 5 skifields and 4 very picturesque golf courses. The four acres of mature garden surrounding the Main House of Willowbrook contain a tennis court, a luxurious spa pool and some very friendly sheep. In the Main House, the very large guest lounge has not one but two open fires, some very comfortable settees, a guest computer and a small library. Indeed relaxing by the fire after a soak in the spa pool has become very popular at Willowbrook ... Tea and coffee are available in the guest lounge and there is a built-in fridge should you need to keep anything cool. A delicious continental breakfast of juice, peeled and sliced fresh fruit, yoghurt, cereal, homemade bread and tea or coffee is included in the room rate in the Main House and is served in the dining area by the fire in the guest lounge. There is an extensive selection of brochures and guides on all the things to see and do locally and we, as agents for most of the local operators, can offer advice and help in answering some of your questions. After breakfast you might like to take your coffee outside to a seat on the front deck and watch the parapentes drifting gently down from Coronet Peak (although there are more of them in the afternoons when the thermals are better!)
Our self-catering accommodation comprises The COTTAGE and The BARN. Both are within the gardens of Willowbrook only a short distance from The Main House. The COTTAGE provides delightfully comfortable accommodation for four people. It has queen and twin single bedrooms, both with en-suite bathroom (one with large wet area and bathtub). The twin single room can accommodate a roll-away bed (extra charge) in case of a party of five. Underfloor heating throughout keeps the bathroom tiles and the polished concrete floors warm to the touch and full kitchen and laundry facilities ensure that all the conveniences of home are at your fingertips. The Cottage has wireless broadband for your laptop and living areas are open plan with a large Malaysian rubber wood dining table forming the centre piece and comfortable sofa and 'Lazy Boy' chairs around the television. Sky TV is provided for your entertainment and there is a gas barbecue on the sundeck which surrounds The Cottage. Views are up to Coronet Peak and over wetlands to the west. With its own access road and car park, The Cottage is the perfect retreat for those seeking seclusion and independence. But if you do need any advice on the many things to see and do in this exciting region, simply wander over to the Main House and Trish and Tony (the managers of Willowbrook) will be only too happy to help. The BARN is a tastefully renovated hay barn consisting of two very large rooms and is perfect for families or for couples in search of a little more privacy along with a self-catering environment. The main room has a super king bed, ensuite bathroom, lounge area, dining table and chairs and a fully equipped kitchenette with cooktop, microwave oven, toaster, electric jug, coffee plunger and plenty of fridge space. The Barn has wireless broadband for your laptop, Sky TV is provided for your entertainment and powerful gas heating is available at the touch of a button. Through a connecting door, The Annex has twin single beds and is available for extra members of the same party or simply if more space is required. The Annex also contains two bunk beds which can be used if there are five or more in the group. On the sunny north side of The Barn is a covered deck with gas barbecue - the perfect spot to relax in the shade in the summer (or to tune-up those skis in the winter!). With its own access road and parking area, The Barn is as private as you want it to be. But as with The Cottage, if you do need any advice on the many things to see and do in this exciting region, simply wander over to the Main House and Trish and Tony (the managers of Willowbrook) will be only too happy to help.
What kinds of rooms do you offer?
There are three double rooms in the Main House: Super king bed with en-suite bathroom (shower, wash basin and toilet); Queen bed with en-suite bathroom (shower, wash basin and toilet); Twin king single beds with private bathroom (shower, bathtub, wash basin and toilet).
Please describe the in-room facilities for each type of room in your B&B.
There are electric blankets on all the beds and all of our rooms have an en-suite bathroom except for the twin room in the Main House which has a private bathroom. Main House rooms are centrally heated; The Cottage has underfloor heating throughout and The Barn has a powerful gas heater. All rooms have a radio alarm and hair dryer.
Which room is your personal favorite?
Possibly The Barn because I have always liked the idea of a studio apartment. Then again I love the warm floors in The Cottage and the open fire in the Main House guest lounge is hard to beat .....
What do the room rates include?
Main House rates include breakfast, wireless internet, Sky TV, parking, use of spa pool and tennis court and GST. Cottage and Barn rates include local telephone calls, wireless internet, Sky TV, parking, use of spa pool and tennis court and GST.
Do you offer any special packages?
We do offer packages and special deals from time to time and reduced rates are available for longer stays and in our Low Season (May/June).
What may guests expect from a typical breakfast at your property?
A delicious continental breakfast of juice, peeled and sliced fresh fruit, yoghurt, cereal, homemade bread and tea or coffee is included in the room rate in the Main House and is served in the dining area by the fire in the guest lounge. Guests are asked to arrange a time with Trish & Tony although breakfast is generally offered between 7:30 and 9:00am.
Are dietary needs accommodated?
Please let us know when you arrive if you have any such requirements.
Do you serve other meals?
Breakfast is the only meal we serve in the Main House but guests are welcome to bring 'takeaways' into the dining area of the guest lounge and we will provide plates and cutlery if required. There is also a fridge in the lounge and complimentary 'self-serve' tea and coffee is available.
Are there cooking facilities, which guests may use?
The Cottage has a full kitchen. The Barn has a well-equipped kitchenette with cooktop, microwave oven, toaster, electric jug, coffee plunger and plenty of fridge space.
Is your bed and breakfast suitable for children?
Children are very welcome in the Main House although I feel The Barn with two very spacious rooms and a self-catering environment is more suited to the needs of children. We have portacots and high chairs available if needed.
Do you accept pets?
I'm sorry to say no we don't. Our first priority is the well-being of our guests and the risk of them suffering allergic reactions means we must say no to pets.
What is your smoking policy?
Smoking is not permitted inside at Willowbrook. Guests are welcome to smoke outside and ashtrays are provided in all deck areas. We ask that you dispose of cigarette butts thoughtfully.
Is there a parking facility on premises or nearby?
There is plenty of safe, off-street parking at Willowbrook. Each property (Main House, Cottage, Barn) has its own designated parking area.
Is your B&B suitable for disabled guests?
The Barn is the most suitable for those in wheelchairs. This property has no interior steps, only a small step at the entrance, is very spacious inside and the bathroom has grab rails and a 'barrier-free' design.
What safety precautions are provided at your B&B?
Willowbrook is all single storey and every room has at least one window with outside ground level access. All bedrooms are fitted with smoke alarms.
What is your check-in/check-out policy?
Check-in is 3pm and we guarantee the rooms will be ready by that time. However more often than not, the room(s) is ready much earlier and if this is the case when you arrive, you are welcome to 'move in'. We ask that guests vacate their rooms by 11am on the morning of departure. They are however welcome to make themselves comfortable in the guest lounge of the Main House if they have to wait for a later flight or are being picked up later.
Are there a minimum number of nights for staying at your B&B?
There is a minimum stay of 2 nights in The Cottage only.

What is you cancellation policy?
Our cancellation policy provides that full tariffs are payable unless we are advised of a cancellation more than 48 hours prior to commencement of the stay. Where a booking is for a period of five nights or more, 25% of the quoted accommodation rate is payable unless we are advised of the cancellation more than seven days prior to commencement of the stay. Less than 48 hours notice of cancellation will result in the full quoted rate being payable.
What types of payment do you accept?
Credit card details (valid at time of stay) are required to secure a booking. Where a booking is for a period of five nights or more, a deposit equal to one night of the stay is payable in advance to secure the booking. This deposit is processed to the submitted credit card. We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Diners Club and JCB cards. Personal cheques by prior arrangement.
