What is(are) your name(s)?
Greg and Ali
For how long have you been running a B&B?
Please share something about the history of your present bed and breakfast.
Ali and Greg have created the beachy ambiance that is Waihi Beach Lodge. Both come from sales & marketing backgrounds - Ali from books, map publishing and retail and Greg through grocery, stationery, office and printed products. Greg had been with the same company for nearly 30 years and felt it was time to look for new opportunities and Ali was of the same opinion and felt this was a challenge we would both relish. Ali & Greg had been holidaying at Waihi Beach for several years and had noticed there was a lack of guest & hosted accommodation at Waihi Beach catering for those who wanted more than a motel room. So they looked for a suitable property that could deliver what they wanted and after quite some time found 170 Seaforth and set about creating Waihi Beach Lodge. They converted the ground floor into two king rooms with seaviews and renovated the existing studio apartment turning it into a refreshing modern space. Ali has decorated all the rooms with beachy or nautical themes.
What are the unique characteristics of your B&B?
Our central location - guests can base them selves here and do day trips to the Coromandel, the Karangahake Gorge, Rotorua and spend a day in Waihi or just lazing on the beach. Close to Waihi Beach - 150 metres from 9kms of sandy beach - the beach is a great relaxer and stress reliver and the walk to each end is just stunning. Proximity to Auckland International airport - less than 2 hours from Auckland International airport means we often have arriving guests straight off their flights for a couple of days to get over the jet lag or a couple of nights prior to them leaving to fly home - they just want to relax in one place before the often long flight. Ideal honeymoon destination - as much or as little pampering as required.
Based on your guests' opinions, what feature of your B&B has made their stay special?
Very welcoming - we want guests to feel at home and are able to relax. Feels like home - guests are able to relax and chill after a days travel or being out and about in the area. Knowledgeable on activities in and around the area - we try to help guests to do whatever that are interested in and point out the local attractions. Alis home baking - Ali makes fresh muffins & bread daily and often puts home baking in guests rooms for a treat when they return at the end of their day of sightseeing. Greg makes various jams and relishes and chutneys. Attention to detail - we try to think of everything so that guests want for nothing while they are here.
