About Portugal Bed & Breakfasts
The equivalent of a bed and breakfast in Portugal is the pension as a type of lodging. Normally in the country B&B is not used as a term to describe a type of lodging. There are the residences called residencial (singular) or residenciais (plural), which do not serve meals and correspond to a guest house. And there are the pensions called pensao (singular) or pensoes (plural), which are private homes, serving meals to guests, which is the closest to a bed and breakfast. Both types of lodging are family run accommodations located in the private home of the owner. In the big cities bed and breakfast accommodations are centrally located in old restored buildings. In the countryside bed and breakfasts are in small manor houses, farm houses, cottages or villas.

Portugal is located in south-west Europe on the Iberian Peninsula to the west of Spain. The country enjoys large variety in landscape from North to South. There are incredible mountains offering adventures, quiet romantic vineyards for getaways, shiny and brilliant ocean coast with numerous resorts and laid back historic cities. Still a trip and a stay in the country are quite affordable compared to other well established tourist destinations in Europe. Undoubtedly there is a lot to do and see in Portugal. The dramatic history of the country has left an abundance of sites and a large part of them are featured in UNESCO World Heritage List. The rich cultural inheritance and events life has turned every major city like Lisbon, Porto, Coimbra, Braga into a real gem for every culture hunter.
